The Cay is about Phillip, a boy stuck with a black man Timothy. This book takes place in the Caribbean. They were stranded when German U-boats attacked the boat going back to Virginia.
Phillip is a 12-year-old boy that is from Virginia and moved to Curacao when he was about 2 years old. He can sometimes be selfish.
Timothy is black man, which in that time didn’t go to school so he is in his 70s he but doesn’t know for sure. He still can’t read but he has worked on the ships all his life so he is strong. He knows how to take care of things.
